CPR and First Aid Classes
These courses in CPR, First Aid are available for healthcare workers and the general public. Please read the course descriptions to learn which course will meet your needs.
Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS), ▲CPR007, 6 hours
This course is primarily for those working in the health-care field (nurses, EMTs, respiratory, physical & occupational therapists, medical/nursing students, and other allied health personnel) who are required to have the American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider completion card for their job or educational program. You will learn adult, infant, and child cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with the use of the automated external defibrillator (AED), training in rescue breathing with barrier devices and the use of bag-masks, as well as foreign-body airway management. You will receive a American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider card link to print your CPR card which is valid for two years after successfully completing the written exam and skills tests. You must attend the entire session to receive a card. The course cost includes textbook, BLS for Healthcare Providers Student Manual. Note: Students must be aware that classes may run longer than the posted times due to class size and/or other factors outside of the instructor's control. Courses may be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment. Half hour lunch break included in class time. Wear comfortable clothes and bring a towel or blanket for CPR practice.
Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers Renewal (BLS), ▲CPR093, 3 hours
This continuing education course is designed for BLS providers and provides training updates to renew their AHA BLS card. Topics include: CPR and impact on survival; signs of someone needing CPR; use of an AED; Chain of Survival; CPR for infant, child and adult. Students must present their current, unexpired AHA BLS card upon registration. An American Heart Association BLS CPR course completion card that is valid for two years will be issued after successfully completing the written exam and skills test. Students must attend the entire session to receive a card. Wear comfortable clothes and bring a towel or blanket for CPR practice.
CPR, AED & Basic First Aid, ▲CPR090, 6 hours
This continuing education course is designed for a anyone who has a current, unexpired American Heart Association (AHA) BLS CPR card. This training provides updates to renew their skills and card. CPR and AED, ▲CPR084, 4 hours
This course teaches members of the general public CPR for adults, children, and infants. The course also covers use of an AED (automated external defibrillator). Students learn how to relieve choking and how to use a barrier device. This course satisfies the CPR requirements for childcare providers in the state of Maryland. Students will receive an American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid/CPR/AED course completion card that is valid for two years after successfully completing the written exam and skills tests. Students must attend the entire session to receive a card. Wear comfortable clothes and bring a towel or blanket for CPR practice.
Basic First Aid, ▲AHT011, 4 hours
This course teaches the citizen responder (and those who need a credential for employment) the principles of first aid, including how to respond to medical emergencies in bleeding, shock, burns, muscle and bone injuries, sudden illness (allergic and diabetic reactions), poisoning, insect/animal bites); and heat and cold related emergencies. Simple hands-on bandaging and splinting procedures will be demonstrated. At the conclusion of this training and successful completion of practical skills and written examination with a 70 percent or better score, an American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid course completion card that is valid for two years.
Heartcode BLS Skills Check Off - ▲CPR098
This course is designed for the healthcare worker who has completed the Online American Heart Association, Heartcode BLS session. Students must demonstrate the hands-on skills session through Montgomery College WDCE to obtain a course completion card.
Heartsaver CPR, AED & First Aid Skills Check-off - ▲CPR094
This course is designed for the general public who have completed the Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Online eLearning portion of the Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED blended learning course. 1. Students will be able to demonstrate the cognitive information needed to perform First Aide, CPR and AED training. Upon completion of the online portion. 2. Students will be able to complete hands-on skills session with an AHA BLS or Heartsaver Instructor. Students are required to print-out “certificate of completion” and bring document to testing site. Students may also show proof of completion via cell phone to the Montgomery College Instructor. Students will not be allowed to demonstrate hands-on competency without the “certificate of completion”. Upon completion, students will receive an American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid/CPR/AED course completion card that is valid for two years.
