Nail Technician License Preparation

The Nail Technician Program provides instruction in preparation for licensure from the Maryland Board of Cosmetologists. Our program consists of three courses that are to be completed in the correct sequence. Upon successful completion of this entire series, participants would fulfill the mandatory 250 hours of training required to be eligible to apply for the Maryland Board of Cosmetologist Exam for Nail Technician.

Continuing Education Courses - Coming Spring 2025

The Maryland State Legislature requires Licensees to complete six hours of approved continuing education as a condition of license renewal.

  • The effective date for licensees to come into compliance will be January 1, 2026.

Montgomery College has been approved as a provider for Cosmetology Continuing Education and courses will start rolling out during the Spring 2025 semester. Return back to this page by the end of November 2024 for details on the upcoming continuing education courses.

Upcoming Schedule

Students can start their Nail Technician preparation during the Fall or Summer semester with Nail Technician I. Only one series is offered at a time.

Nail Technician I - Fall 2024

Program registration available starting July 29, 2024.

Registration will be available until the course reaches maximum capacity. Payment is due at the time of registration in order to stay registered.

Nail Technician II - Spring 2025

Registration requires approval.

Registration only available to those who have completed COS004.

Required Prerequisite: Nail Technician I.

Registration only available to those who have completed COS004 and COS005.

Required Prerequisite: Nail Technician I and Nail Technician II.

Attendance Policy

Students must sit for all hours of the program for completion. Registered students should refer to the syllabus sent a week prior to class about the number of hours allowed to be made up for a given class. Students that need to make-up missing hours will need to return during a future semester to complete the hours missed or complete a program/event at the discretion of the program office. Students that miss more than the number of hours listed in the syllabus, without excused absences, will not be eligible for returning to make up course hours, and would not be allowed to move on to the next course in the sequence. 

 

WDCE Scholarship Opportunities

Students must review the eligibility criteria and instructions for each opportunity. Please pay close attention to the instructions, and be sure to include any necessary documentation, as incomplete applications are not considered.

Workforce Development Sequence Scholarship

Up to $2,000 covers tuition, fees, and associated costs of attendance that have not been met through another grant or scholarship. Supplies

Students will need to purchase supplies at an additional cost outside of the cost of the courses. A breakdown of what supplies will be needed and used for each course will be provided to registered students during the first class session. Some bulk supplies will be provided at the start of Nail Technician I to help students get started while in class.

Please note that additional nail and bulk supplies may need to be purchased by the student based on frequency of use throughout the duration of the program, including for home use.

 

Maryland Nail Technician Exam Information

The Maryland Department of Labor, Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing, State Board of Cosmetologists (Board) licenses and regulates individuals who practice the trade of cosmetology in the State of Maryland. The Board has contracted with PSI Services LLC (PSI) to conduct its cosmetology examination program.

Our Montgomery College program helps students meet and complete 250 hours of instruction requirement for Nail Technician. Upon completion of the entire series of courses, the program team will provide students a college sealed Eligibility/Examination Registration Form as required by PSI. Student exam fees are not included as a part of cost of the courses in this series.

 

Registration Information

Nail Technician I is considered open enrollment and is available to students on a first come, first serve basis until the class start date or the class is at maximum capacity. Students attempting to register online must login to their MyMC Student Account to register.

Nail Technician II and Nail Technician III are locked for registration and will require program approval to register because of required prerequisites.

Payment is due at the time of registration.
