Billy Struemke, LL.M. - Alternative Dispute Resolution
Billy Struemke joined Montgomery College in August of 2023, where he assumed the role of College Ombuds. As a staunch advocate for alternative dispute resolution, Billy brings a unique perspective to Montgomery College, shaped by a diverse professional journey spanning legal, military, and educational spheres. His commitment to conflict resolution has evolved through his experiences as a highly successful trial attorney, military officer, and educator.
Billy currently holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Colorado State University, a Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) with an additional certificate in Law and Government from Widener University School of Law, and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Commercial Arbitration with an emphasis in Mediation from Pepperdine Caruso School of Law.
Billy’s career initially thrived in the courtroom, where he gained a reputation as
a skilled trial attorney. However, a fundamental conflict arose between his personal
nature and the adversarial nature of court proceedings. Recognizing this incongruity,
Billy transitioned from trial law to alternative dispute resolution. There, Billy
excelled as a successful Mediator, Arbitrator, and Ombudsperson. With him, Billy brings
over 29 years of military service, where he currently serves as an instructor as a
Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve. The principles of Independence, Impartiality,
Informality, and Confidentiality have served as the bedrock of his practice, echoing
his commitment to effective dispute resolution.
With a rich background blending legal expertise, military leadership, and a passion
for education, Billy is committed to fostering peaceful, informal resolutions and
contributing positively to Montgomery College.
