Teaching to Increase Diversity in STEM (TIDES)

In 2014, Montgomery College was one of twenty nationwide colleges and universities awarded a Teaching to Increase Diversity in STEM (TIDES) Grant by the American Association of Colleges and Universities. The overall goal of TIDES was “to increase the learning outcomes and retention of students historically underrepresented in the computer/information sciences and related STEM disciplines.” The main goal of the MC TIDES Grant project is to help faculty apply culturally responsive teaching (CRT) in their courses to increase student success.

To accomplish this goal, the MC TIDES team has and continues to engage in various activities. It collaborates with faculty and the College’s professional development division, E-Learning, Innovation and Teaching Excellence (ELITE), to gather, create, and distribute CRT-related resources. It also has and continues to give presentations and conduct workshops at MC, regional, and national conferences.
