The Germantown Campus’s Fun at the Park Day with Raptors Baseball drew dozens of fans to the doubleheader against NJCAA Division II rival Prince George’s Community College on April 4.
The second annual event featured free hot dogs, drinks, and giveaways for spectators. Germantown Campus Interim Vice President and Provost Dr. Muhammad Kehnemouyi threw out the ceremonial first pitch. The crowd of students, staff, professors, administrators, and families watched the Raptors sweep both games, 5-4 and 16-3.
The Raptors baseball team is now 21-10—and is in fourth place in Maryland Junior College standings. Ryan Mariani (Wootton HS) leads pitchers with a 7-1 record. Pitcher Sommers Turner (Einstein HS) has the lowest earned run average at 2.14. Maverick Durant (Damascus HS) tops all batters with a .421 average. Left fielder Jonathan McMath earned Region XX player of the month honors in March. And 12 former Raptors are playing baseball at four-year schools from Pennsylvania to Florida.
The Germantown Campus Council, Office of Student Life, and Office of the Vice President and Provost sponsored the event. “These activities bring a lot of goodwill and visibility for our teams,” said Raptors Baseball Coach Dan Rascher, now in his eighteenth year. “I appreciate all the hard work these people put into the Fun at the Park Day.”
