This paper explores the failed attempt by urban developers, a primary driving force in rapidly spreading gentrification, to shift tactics towards a “gentler way to gentrify.” In cities with a large Black population, such as Washington, DC, we see that these companies still play a major role in the displacement of the native community. Effectively, their goal is to inconspicuously change the demographic of the neighborhoods in which they develop, make profit, and avoid the negative connotations associated with their mission.

This is part of the Annual Poster Session, a collaboration between the Sociology, Anthropology and Criminal Justice Department and the Media Arts and Technologies Department, featuring work by social science and illustration students.
