First Impressions from My MC Learning Journey
Listening, Learning, Engaging: Voices and Insights from Montgomery College
From day one, my commitment to Montgomery College has been my only driver. Since my first interaction with the College, and several times after, I have promised to listen and learn. The exploration and discovery of Montgomery College has filled my last 80 days, almost from dawn to dusk. What a wealth of talented students, innovative employees, and mission-focused teams I have encountered. My gratitude to everyone who has shared their thoughts on MC’s assets and aspirations is immense.
I appreciate the faculty and staff energy that has allowed me to engage with several hundred people in meetings, listening sessions, events, and activities in this short time. I also value the many faculty members who have allowed me to visit their classes and the students who have allowed me to chat with them informally on the sidelines of athletic events, arts projects, and performances. At each one I have learned something new about their talents, their promise, and the complexities of their lives.
In all my engagements, I have worked to listen closely and dialogue thoroughly with individuals about their diverse experiences at the College. The opportunities I have been given to talk with faculty, staff, and students across the campuses have enriched my understanding and appreciation of the College considerably. I will continue this process throughout the summer and into the fall. For now, in these pages I would like to share some of the insights I have gained from listening and engaging at the College.
