Biography
Dr. Alves has taught in ELAP (formerly AELP) at MC since 2001. During that time, he has taught a variety of courses: all three tracks of the ELAP program, Chinese 101 to 201, and Linguistics 200. In summer programs at other institutions, he has also taught MA TESOL courses and upper-level linguistics courses at the University of Maryland, McDaniel College, and the University of Hanoi. He coordinated the upper-level writing course (formerly EL 104) for a decade. With ELAP colleagues, he has co-authored a series of college ESL educational materials. He is very active in linguistic research in Southeast Asia, especially related to Vietnamese and Vietnam broadly, and has published dozens of linguistics articles and given numerous presentations at linguistics conferences and as an invited speaker. He has been the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the Southeast Asian Linguistics Society since 2015.

Biography
Henry N. Caballero is a native of the Texas Gulf Coast where he spent his formative
years enjoying the outdoors, reading for pleasure, and playing the trumpet. In 2001,
he moved to Gaithersburg, MD and began teaching in the academic ESL program at Montgomery
College in Rockville where his work in the field of College-level ESL education has
led to published grammar/ writing materials and numerous presentations at local, state,
and international conferences. At Montgomery College, Henry has served as a course
coordinator for the speaking / listening and grammar / writing courses and as the
American English Language Program coordinator. He holds certificates in Training of
Trainers, ELT Management, and Developing Online Teaching Programs. In 2017, he earned
a Montgomery College Outstanding Full-time Faculty Award in recognition of his contributions
and leadership roles. He believes that maturing writers, like budding musicians, need
opportunities to hone their craft and receive feedback so that they develop skills
and confidence.

Biography
Osmond Farrell is a Professor of Communication Studies at Montgomery College, Rockville, where he teaches mostly Business and Professional Communication, Foundation of Human Communication, and Public Speaking courses. He is a former Pew Faculty Fellow and is a recipient of the Teaching Leadership Award from the University of Colorado. Farrell holds a BA in Journalism from the University of the Virgin Islands, a MA in Mass Communication and a PhD,in Human Communication Studies from Howard University. Before joining Montgomery College on a full-time basis in Spring of 2010, he taught full-time in the undergraduate and graduate level programs at Morgan State University. Biography
Dr. Rashi Jain is a professor in the English Language for Academic Purposes Program at Montgomery College's Rockville campus, where she currently teaches academic English to multilingual immigrant and international students preparing for college studies. As a global citizen who now lives across nations, languages, and cultures, Rashi believes that it is crucial for students and educators to acquire intercultural and translingual competence to successfully navigate complex 21st-century realities, and this is foundational to her pedagogy and research. For many years, Rashi has been exploring the rich field of practitioner research and inquiry, and she has also published and presented extensively on transnationalism and translingualism, cross-cultural communication, teacher identity and pedagogy, Global Englishes, and Non-native English Speaking Teacher (NNEST) issues.

Professor Stephanie Landon, Assistant Professor and the Writing Skills Coordinator in the ELAP department, earned
her B.A. degree in German Literature from University of California, Irvine, and her
M.A.T. from Simmons College. She lived in Germany as an undergraduate, and taught
communicate English in Chiba, Japan at multiple colleges for social welfare and emergency
response training, and she taught English Composition in Chile at la Universidad de Santiago de Chile as a Fulbright Visiting Professor.
She has taught in community college ESOL programs in Massachusetts and California
prior to moving to Maryland in 2014. She was the Program Manager for non-credit and
credit ESOL courses at Frederick Community College for four years before transitioning
to her current role as Associate Professor of ELAP at Montgomery College in 2018.
Since her time at MC began, she has been a Global Humanities Fellow, Smithsonian Fellow,
Rockville Faculty Senate Secretary, presenter for the Universal Design Center, and
Cadre Advisor.
Teaching Philosophy: I believe in building students' autonomy to achieve the success they want and reach
their goals. I believe that a true educator supports each student in their own journey
toward building the skills they need to succeed, and I am honored to be one stone
on their paths toward excellence.

Biography
Dr. Anestine Theophile-LaFond is a Caribbean scholar with extensive teaching experience. In the field of Communication, she maintains pedagogy rooted in demystifying the communication process. Dr. Theophile-LaFond is Fulbright scholar and an award-winning journalist. Dr. Theophile-LaFond is experienced in teaching courses in communication theory, research methods and interpersonal and intercultural communication as well as public relations and public speaking. Dr. Theophile-LaFond is a graduate of the 19th cohort of Montgomery College Leadership Institute and a Smithsonian Fellow in the 2015 cohort. Dr. LaFond is recipient of the MC 2018 Outstanding Faculty Award, an alum of the Chair Academy Advanced Leadership Program, MC Global Leadership program and MC-trained Search Advocate. LaFond is the author of Telecommunication Policy in the Eastern Caribbean: Politics, Policy, and Reform (2015, Mellen Press).

Jason has been teaching at MC since spring 2014. He regularly teaches at each of MCs 3 campus locations and also tutors in the writing center in Rockville. Jason has traveled to China to and to Costa Rica recently to represent MC in professional development programs.
