Educational Opportunity Center

The Educational Opportunity Center program is sponsored by a TRIO grant from the U.S. Department of Education Office of Post-secondary Education and Montgomery College to serve participants in seven sections of Montgomery County-- Takoma Park, Silver Spring, Wheaton, Kensington, Aspen Hill, Rockville and Gaithersburg.

Commission for Womennew window The Commission for Women is an office of Montgomery County that works to ensure equality for women and girls.

Family Self Sufficiency The Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSS)new window is a congressionally-authorized and career development program designed to help individuals with housing subsidies make progress toward economic security by increasing their earnings and building assets. ­

The Montgomery County Family Justice Centernew window co-locates multiple agencies in a safe and secure facility to provide coordinated advocacy, government, and civil legal services and social services.  ­

Maryland Hunger Solutions Applicationnew window assistance for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formally known as food stamps) and navigation of the post-application process. Additional food resources can be provided. All populations served. ­

MCPS Early Head Start Prekindergarten and Head Startnew window – free preschool and family support services for low-income three- and four-year-olds and their families. Must reside in Montgomery County. Children with disabilities are welcome.  ­

Office of Home Energy Programs (OHEP) new windowThe Maryland Energy Assistance Program helps eligible families with the cost of heating. The Electric Universal Service Program (EUSP) is a Maryland program to help low-income electric customers pay their electric bills. This program provides eligible electric customers help paying their current electric bill. If eligible, a grant will be sent directly to customer’s electric utility to help pay past due or ongoing bills.  Benefits may help reduce monthly bills.  ­

Working Parents Assistance Program, Child Care Subsidy The Departmentnew window can assist eligible families by contributing to the cost of child care through the County funded Working Parents Assistance Program. Maryland’s Child Care Subside Program (CCS), formerly the Purchase of Care Program (POC) is now centralized through the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). Parents complete an application for the WPA program and a caseworker determines eligibility, based on income. Families whose income is under scale for WPA will be referred to CCSCentral to complete an application for the state Child Care Subsidy Program (CCS).
