Business, Information Sciences and Hospitality Management
Ms. Susan Hope Mosher, associate professor of Management, Department of Business and Economics, received a B.A. from Muhlenberg College and an M.B.A. from the State University of New York at Albany. She recently completed a certificate in leadership coaching from Georgetown University. In addition to teaching at Hagerstown Community College, Ms. Mosher has owned businesses, consulted for various companies and organizations, including the federal government, the National Highway Institute, the State of Maryland Energy Office, and Simon and Schuster. In 2004, she received a Team Excellence award for delivering leadership training at the US Department of Agriculture Graduate School. And in 2007, she was ranked first among trainers at the National Highway Institute.

Fine, Performing & Visual Arts
Mr. Brian Mason is the instructional lab coordinator for the Department of Communication Arts Technologies. Mr. Mason has taught at the School of Art and Design at Montgomery College, The Corcoran School of Art and Design, Vis Arts, and the Montgomery County Recreation Department. He studied Commercial Art and Design at the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida.

Mr. Roger Bridges is the theater production technician in the Department of Speech, Dance & Theatre. Mr. Bridges has over six years of experience in theatre as a technical director, carpenter, set designer, lighting designer, and sound designer. He comes to Montgomery College from the Shakespeare Theatre in Washington, D.C., and previously served as technical director for the Raleigh Little Theatre in North Carolina.

Science, Engineering, and Math
Dr. Okkyung Cho, associate professor, Department of Mathematics, received her B.S. and M.S. in mathematics at Chonbuck National University in Korea, and her Ph.D. in mathematics at the University of Georgia. Her area of research is Applied Mathematics: Wavelet Analysis. She comes to Montgomery College from the University of Toledo where she served for three years as a visiting assistant professor of mathematics.

Dr. Nawal Benmouna started teaching at Montgomery College Takoma Park /Silver Spring Campus in 2006. This fall she joins the faculty in the Department of Physics, Engineering, and Geosciences as an associate professor. Dr. Benmouna earned a B.S. and M.S. in physics from American University and a Ph.D. in high-energy nuclear physics from the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center in collaboration with American University. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at George Washington University where she also served as a visiting professor. She is credited with developing a nuclear physics research mentoring program for undergraduate students funded by the National Science Foundation. Dr. Benmouna continues to submit grant proposals to NSF in nuclear physics and physics education research. During her short tenure at Montgomery College, she has already received a Course, Curriculum, and Laboratory Improvement (CCLI) grant from NSF to conduct physics education research to enhance student learning.

Dr. Atul Roy joins the faculty in the Department of Mathematics. He earned a doctorate in mathematics from the University of Allahabad, India. Dr. Roy has taught mathematics and statistics as a full-time faculty member at various colleges for the last 32 years, ranging from developmental to graduate level courses. He has held permanent faculty positions at Ewing Christian College, Culver-Stockton College, and Montgomery College Germantown Campus. He has been a visiting professor of mathematics at Cornell University and UCLA. Dr. Roy has received college-wide awards for Excellence in Teaching at Culver-Stockton College and at Montgomery College.

Dr. Antonio del Castillo-Olivares has been appointed as an associate professor in the Biology Department. Last year, he taught Principles of Biology, Nucleic Acid Methods, and Chemistry Laboratory at the College. Dr. del Castillo has a B.S. in biology, an M.S. in biochemistry, and a Ph.D. in cellular and molecular biology from the Universidad de Malaga in Spain. He brings to the college community over 15 years of experience in education and research, including serving as a senior scientist for the last four years at the University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute. He also was an assistant professor at Virginia Commonwealth University where he completed a postdoctoral fellowship, and he has published several scientific articles. Dr. del Castillo has been responsible for supervising student research projects as well as training and mentoring undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral students.

Social Sciences, Education, History, Health, and Physical Sciences
Ms. Shinta Hernandez, assistant professor of Sociology, received a B.S. in psychology from Brandeis University and an M.S. in public policy from Georgetown University. She is currently working on a Ph.D. in sociology at the University of Maryland. Her specialization areas are family demography and gender/work/family intersectionality. Her research interests include child and adolescent reproductive health, education, poverty, employment, and parental involvement. Prior to her current appointment, Ms. Hernandez worked at the Urban Institute's Labor, Human Services, and Population Center in Washington, D.C., conducting quantitative and qualitative research studies on marriage and family, teenage reproductive health, adult education, and the No Child Left Behind Act. She also worked at Westat Inc. in Rockville, MD, executing interviews with child service agencies throughout the nation to examine child abuse and neglect cases.

Dr. Laura Moore, associate professor of Sociology, earned her B.A. in design at Louisiana State University and her M.A. and Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Maryland with specializations in gender, work, and family as well as social inequality. Having taught at several local campuses including the University of Maryland and Hood College, Dr. Moore has been recognized by students and colleagues for her teaching and service excellence. Her published research examines the relationship between individuals’ attitudes or tolerance levels and the educational and religious contexts within which they reside. Additional research and teaching interests include intersections of race/ethnicity, class and gender, social constructions of sexuality, masculinity, deviance, and family.

Mr. Daniel Santore, assistant professor of Sociology, is a doctoral candidate nearing his dissertation defense for the Ph.D. in sociology at SUNY- Albany, where he also completed his master’s degree in women’s studies in 2005. He has spent the past five years teaching sociology at SUNY- Albany and at Montgomery College Rockville Campus. His teaching and research interests include sociological theory, gender, and families. Mr. Santore has published several articles and essays on these topics, some of which have merited him university awards. In addition to his regular classroom duties, he works with students as a personal and group tutor for introductory sociology courses.
